Trump slams Texas ‘RINOS’ for trying to impeach Paxton

[ad_1]

Trump denounced Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan, whom Trump called almost a Republican. Trump also announced election interference in the trial, and said Ken Paxton is Free, let them wait for the next election!

In 2020, Paxton asked the US Supreme Court to overturn President Joe Biden’s election loss to Trump.

Scandals have followed Paxton throughout his career, with the latest accusations of bribery and abuse of public trust resulting in the GOP-majority House meeting Saturday to begin impeachment proceedings.

If impeached as only the third official in Texas history to meet such a fate, Paxton would be removed from office pending a Senate trial. Republican Gov. Greg Abbott will appoint a temporary replacement. Final removal would require a two-thirds vote in the Senate, of which Paxton’s wife, Angela, is a member.

US Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) also expressed support for Paxton, calling the impeachment proceedings a travesty in a series of Tweets on Saturday.

No attorney general has fought the abuses of the Biden administration more fiercely and more effectively than Paxton, Cruz wrote. That’s why he wants out of the swamp in Austin. Special interests don’t want a staunchly conservative AG. I understand that people are concerned about Kens legal challenges. But the courts must sort them out.

In a statement released Thursday, Paxton called the accusations hearsay and hearsay, before declaring that the impeachment proceedings are an attempt to subvert the will of the people and disenfranchise our state’s voters.

On Friday, he called on his supporters to come peacefully and make their voices heard at the Capitol tomorrow.

During Saturday’s trial, Republican State Rep. Charlie Geren to reveal that several members of the House body had received direct phone calls from Paxton threatening their political careers.

I would like to point out that some members of this House, while on the floor of this House, doing the business of the state, have received telephone calls from [Attorney] General Paxton personally, threatening them with political consequences in their next election, Geren said.
