Donald Trump is doubling back on comments praising the former New York Governor, qualifying his remarks and saying he only meant to point to Florida as having more COVID-19 deaths.
“I never praised Former Governor Andrew Cuomo, as the dying New York Post suggests. I thought he was a terrible Governor, and made that point for years. He is the enemy, and I will destroy his Fake (Sanctimonious?) News Conferences. I did a lot to help in New York, but he didn’t even use the Convention Center or the Medical Ship. Crazy!”
“But as bad as he is,” Trump added, “all I said is that New York (4th worst) has fewer actual Covid deaths than (Ron DeSantis) ran in Florida (3rd worst). Those are the facts!”
These “facts,” released Friday night, contradict a narrative that Trump has allowed to marinate for days, in which Trump and Cuomo seem to have accepted the position that New York has surpassed Florida in during the pandemic.
Under Ron DeSanctimonious as Governor, Florida is the third WORST State in Covid Deaths. So why do they say DeSanctus did so well? Fewer deaths in New York! Also, he closed the State, and even its beaches (unlike other Republican Governors), Trump posted onTruth SocialTuesday.
Cuomo tweeted a Florida Politics article reporting Trump’s claims, meanwhile.
Donald Trump told the truth, finally. New York was hit first and worst but New Yorkers acted responsibly. Florida’s denial policy allowed Covid to spread and that’s why they had a massive second wave, the former Governor said.
DeSantis was pleased Trump seemed to side with Cuomo, meanwhile.
Unfortunately, he decided to move left on some of these issues. He used to say how good Florida was, DeSantis said in Iowa. Hell, his whole family moved to Florida under my governorship!
The Governor of Florida accepted the contrast of Cuomo.
Do you like Cuomo or do you want a free Florida? the Governor asked rhetorically, as translated by the New York Post. If we just decide in the caucuses on that, I’ll be happy with that verdict of the voters in Iowa.
