Donald Trumps supporters are gathering this weekend in Pickens, South Carolina where the 2024 Republican presidential hopeful is expected to speak at a Fourth of July rally.

It comes as The Independent revealed that the Department of Justice is preparing to seek indictments against several people in Mr Trump’s orbit and could bring further charges against the former president in the coming weeks.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the DOJ has prepared to bring a so-called superseding indictment of a second set of charges against an indicted defendant that could include more serious crimes against Mr Trump. The justice department could do so in several different areas, depending on how prosecutors feel the case they have filed against him in a Florida federal court is proceeding, the sources said.

Mr Trump’s other legal troubles appear to be heating up after it emerged that former campaign official Mike Roman is reportedly cooperating with investigators looking into his efforts to subvert the 2020 election. Sources said on CNN on Thursday that Mr. Roman, who was involved in the fake electors scheme, reached a proffer agreement with special counsel Jack Smiths office. Rudy Giuliani is also said to have taken such an agreement.
