Michael Steele, the former head of the Republican National Committee, on Monday criticized the latest attempt by 2024 GOP candidate Nikki Haley to have the same approach when it comes to Donald Trump.
Haley, the former US ambassador to the United Nations, earlier criticized Trump and called for a generational change in the GOP but then, in the next breath, admitted she would still vote for the former president if he were the parties’ nominee.
Haley’s bubblegum speech was just a pious bid to appease Trump supporters, Steele told MSNBC’s Chris Jansing. He suggested that Haley either take on Republican front-runner Trump or drop out of the race.
Stop wasting our time, he added.
If Haley wants the job, Steele said, the shell needs to sound more like former Gov. of New Jersey.
If there’s more unified messaging on that, you’ll probably start to see some movement within the party, the former GOP leader added. But everyone is looking to protect Trump as opposed to firing him because they fear what? So its almost to the point that you get tired of answering the question what are these people doing? They have no idea what they are doing.
