White House press secretary turned Fox News contributor Kayleigh McEnany claimed she did not lie while speaking for Donald Trump.
Addressing a conservative group on Sunday, McEnany said of his first steps into the role: And then there was the question, Will you lie to us ?, and I said without hesitation, No, and I never did. made, as a woman of faith.
As a mother of baby Blake, as someone who has thoroughly prepared in some of the most difficult institutions in the world, I have not lied. I took my information, but it won’t stop the press from calling you a liar.
The press questioned the veracity of McEnanys ’claims. So have political factchecking sites. For example, Politifact gave McEnany a pants on the fire rating in September after he told reporters: The president never let the virus down.
He was responding to questions about Bob Woodward’s Washington Post reporting, which Trump said in March 2020, as the coronavirus pandemic lasted: To be honest with you, I always wanted to play it. I still want to play it, because I don’t want to create a panic.
Politifact said: The record shows he was wrong.
McEnany restarted briefings at the White House after more than 400 days without one under Stephanie Grisham. Sean Spicer and Sarah Sanders also led the breakdown of relations between the press and the White House and, critics said, the relationship between the White House and reality.
Reporting McEnanys ’first appearance, on May 1, 2020, the Guardian said that even in a reassuring debut, McEnany skated close to coming up with absurd information about Trump’s responses to the coronavirus pandemic (This president always sided with the data side) and allegations of sexual misconduct (He always told the truth).
Washington Post factcheckers put Trump’s final tally of false or misleading claims at 30,573.
At the Turning Point USA Young Womens Leadership Summit in Dallas, McEnany said she created a motto for her journalism operation: Just Guilt.
Because I know what we are up against. Republicans always get bad headlines, always get false stories, always get lies, if I can use that word, the press said. There is one standard for Democrats and another for Republicans, and we must be in guilt, confident, brave and willing to call it that. We cannot be silent.
Regarding the alleged lies of the press, McEnany cited the scope of the Lafayette Square clearing, the intelligence over Russia’s supplies to U.S. troops and the theory that the coronavirus escaped a laboratory in China all the stories underlying in emerging reporting.
McEnany is one of many Trump White House veterans who have seen roles on Fox News, where he is a commentator and co-host of Outnumbered.
But when he became press secretary, even Fox News broke away from what he said when he promoted Trumps lying that his defeat of Biden was the result of election fraud.
In March, responding to news about McEnanys ’new job, an anonymous Fox News staffer quoted by the Daily Beast referred to the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol by calling McEnany a mini-Goebbels who helped motivate our democracy.
On Sunday, amid the uproar over his claim to never lied in serving Trump, he tweeted: Hate Haters!
