Former president Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he has accepted the invitation to tour the southern border with Governor Greg Abbott on June 30.
The Biden Government inherited from me the strongest, safest, and most secure border in U.S. history and in just a few weeks they made it the worst border crisis in U.S. history. It is an unmitigated disaster zone, Trump said in a statement.
Building a wall next to the Texas-Mexico border was a major commitment throughout the Trumps presidency, but he never fully delivered on it. His promise that Mexico would pay for the wall was not fulfilled, and the 450 -mile barrier he built was mostly in Arizona and fewer ended up in the Rio Grande Valley where border crossings are more prevalent, according to The Washington Post .

Abbott announced last Thursday that Texas would take matters into its own hands and build its own border wall to prevent the flow of migrants from Mexico. In a podcast interview on Tuesday, he explained that the wall is at least partially crowdfunded, and the state will solicit donations from around the country.
The announcement immediately stemmed from criticism from those who said immigration enforcement was a federal responsibility, not a state job, and questioned the constitutionality of the Abbotts ’intentions.
Abbott also announced plans to increase local jail capacity along the border, and increase arrests by arresting state troops of migrants on state charges. Abbott scheduled a press conference for Wednesday afternoon, where he said hell provide more details about the plan.

Abbott has strongly criticized the Biden administration for its immigration policies over the past few months, calling the border a crisis and accusing the president of helping cartels earn more money. The policies include pausing border construction and ordering a review by the Trump administrations that will stick to Mexican policy requiring asylum seekers to wait in Mexico until their hearing in immigration courts of the US.
