Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump’s former personal attorney, on Friday filed a lawsuit seeking $ 20 million in damages from the federal government, accusing top figures in the Trump administration of retaliating against him by recalling to him in prison after he was wrapped up last year.

Cohen’s book, titled Disloyal: A Memoir, ”was released in September 2020. Cohen, 54, also described the fear for his life after his decision to testify against Trump and said he believed the president wanted him dead. At one point, Cohen said, he thought of suicide while hundreds were threatened with death.

He was previously described as Trump’s “fixer” but turned on the former boss, calling him a “con man” and a “cheat” during a dramatic testimony before Congress in 2019.

Cohen was released from federal prison in May 2020. He served a three-year sentence after pleading guilty to what a federal judge called a “verbe smorgasbord” of criminal conduct, including making secret payments. to women who said they had activities. along with Trump, lying to Congress about the presidents ’dealings with Russia’s business and failure to report millions of dollars in revenue.

Cohen was initially scheduled to be released from federal lockup in Otisville, New York, in November 2021. He served more than a year of his sentence when he was released early. But Cohen was returned to prison in July 2020 after refusing to sign a house arrest agreement prohibiting him from publishing a book or speaking to the media.

Cohen argued in his claim that his trip to meet probation officers at the federal courthouse in Manhattan that day in July was a trap. Law enforcement officials previously said Cohen, who was released from prison due to coronavirus concerns, refused to sign the agreement prohibiting him from contacting the media or writing a book.

Cohen was shown the eight conditions required for house arrest and was angry about the media gag rule, his former lawyer and counsel Lanny Davis said at the time. Davis said Cohen was reluctant to sign because he had already finished his book while in prison.

However, Cohen was later released in mid-July last year after a federal judge ordered his release, agreeing with Cohen’s lawyers that he was wrongly sent back to jail after making public statements that critic of Trump.

“Responsibility for these cruel, unconstitutional and pernicious acts is necessary to preserve our forefathers’ aspiration for freedom, democracy and the rule of law, ”Cohen’s attorney said in a statement.
