On July 4 every year we celebrate the independence of our country. We enjoy the freedoms that our democracy gives us.
However, a large majority of Republicans in the Senate and the House of Representatives refused to support a bipartisan commission to investigate the Jan. 6 insurgency by the U.S. Capitol.
As residents of the 8th Congressional District, we ask our Congressman Pete Stauber to check out the New York Times documentary video, “Days of Rage: An In-Depth Look at How a Mob Damaged the Capitol.’ Because with his background as a police officer, we expect him to condemn the actions of the rebels and recognize that President Donald Trump is primarily responsible for the violence.
We fear for our democracy if mob management continues to be sanctioned based on Republican misreporting and denial.
