Gracy Singh Says She Was Troubled About Bollywood, Reveals Shabana Azmis Compliment For Lagaan | Bollywood

Gracy Singh, who made her full Bollywood debut alongside Aamir Khan in critically acclaimed Ashutosh Gowarikers Lagaan, admitted to having apprehensions about being part of the film industry. However, she is now proud of it.

Lagaan, with Aamir Khan and Gracy Singh, was the story of how the inhabitants of a small village in India, ravaged by drought and burdened by taxes, bet their future on a game of cricket with the British. The film, which wrapped up its two-decade release on Tuesday, was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 74th Academy Awards.

Speaking to Bollywood Hungama about the comments she received for Lagaan from her colleagues in the film industry, Gracy said: I received a lot of love. Maine toh socha bhi nahi tha ki film industry aisi hoti hogi (I never thought the film industry would be like this). I had some apprehensions; that’s why I didn’t want to get into the cinema. However, it is such a beautiful world and I am very proud to be a part of the film industry. Yahaan bahut acche log bhi hai aur naye-naye ko artists encourage bhi karte hai (People here are very nice and they encourage new talent). I was not from the movies and yet everyone was so supportive and loving.

Gracy recalled the compliments of Shabana Azmi and Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Everyone was very nice. I remember having met Shabana Azmi ji who said to me: You have a very expressive face. Even Vidhu Vinod Chopra ji gave compliments. And there have been a lot of others who have said great things about me and my role, she said.

After Lagaan, Gracy has been seen in films such as Gangaajal, Munna Bhai MBBS and Deshdrohi. She is currently part of the mythological TV show Santoshi Maa – Sunayein Vrat Kathayein.
