Fashion is key at student-organized market – Times-Herald

On Sunday, hundreds of people came out to a student-organized market to support local businesses and combat fast fashion.

The Flee Fast Fashion Market was held in the St. Patrick-St. Vincent High parking lot with the full support of the school administration, local businesses, family and friends. There were over 25 vendors, which sold quality second-hand vintage clothing, homemade items, and baked goods.

Ariana Bides, a senior at St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School, organized the Flea Fast Fashion Market, inviting local businesses and focusing on second-hand vintage clothing. As part of her senior capstone project around sustainability, Bides wanted to organize an event around her own passion — clothing sustainability.

I’ve always had an interest in fashion,” Bides said. “When I go out, my friends are always like, are you trying? What are you wearing? Loving fashion and knowing the affects of fashion is so key to just being an aware person in my community. said Bides.

Katie Estrada, a St. Pat’s senior, attended the event as the business owner of Lucys Berries based in Vallejo. Estrada said the event was a great first introduction to saving the world from unsustainable practices.

Im a strong believer that small businesses should support other small businesses, especially local, said Estrada.

Adrian Carbullido, owner of Primo.SF and a St. Pat’s alumni himself, also showed up and said he felt proud returning to his school as a sustainable business owner.

It’s cool to show that I’m doing something that I am passionate about. And it’s been very successful so far, said Carbullido. Another thing is just seeing familiar faces that I haven’t seen since high school. Catching up with them. And overall, just sharing my business and my passion. I can’t pass up local events like these.

By the end of the event, Bides was feeling the satisfying accomplishment of more than a year of mental and logistical planning. Bides is hopeful there will be another market before the end of the school year. That gives me so much hope for my ideas and what I could do with my potential.
