With just a week remaining before the Fall/Winter fashion season hits the Paris runways, Louis Vuitton (LV) has roped in Brooklyn-based Colm Dillane, founder of KidSuper, to collaborate on its menswear designs.

In the post-Virgil Abloh era, the luxury fashion house is determined to reintroduce collaborations on the runway. The announcement was made on January 10, 2023 and comes after Louis Vuitton collaborated with Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama for an avant-garde collection featuring eclectic prints and hand-printed polka dots on classic LV designs.

Collaboration and fashion week

It’s important to note that, although Louis Vuitton brought in Dillane as the first guest designer to create the silhouettes for the men’s section, he didn’t take the reins as creative director.

This partnership comes at a time when the brand will be launching Men’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection in Paris on January 19. The show will be created “with the participation” of Dillane and will reflect his creative vision. The statement also stated, “in other words, Colm is pinned into a men’s studio.”

Speak to Everyday Women’s Clothing, Vuitton Chairman and CEO Michael Burke said, “It’s all about chemistry.” And with that, he pointed not only at Dillane but to a group of talented and creative leaders who would make menswear show vision. These include filmmakers Olivier and Michel Gondry, best known for their music videos for Daft Punk, Foo Fighters and Björk, stylist Ibrahim Kamara and screenwriter Lina Kutsovskaya, said The New York Times. Worldwide music sensations are also expected to attend the event.

Who is Colm Dillane?

Dillane, 31, started selling his own designs on the streets of Soho in New York as a high school teenager. In 2010, he majored in math at New York University and launched SuperKid in 2018.

An artist and multimedia entertainer, Colm wears a number of feathers on his hats. He played professional football in Brazil for a year and directed award-winning short films, music videos, and a sold-out solo art fashion show. She was also turned down three times before finally being approved to showcase her designs at Paris Fashion Week in 2019. Her incredible real-life experiences and stories have sparked her wise thoughts and are reflected in her creations.

In 2021, he was awarded the Karl Lagerfeld Award by LVMH. The following year, in 2022, Dillane was a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Finalist and a CFDA nominee for American Emerging Designer of the Year.

A Fashion Business reports also state that two days after the Louis Vuitton project, Colm Dillane will return to Paris Fashion Week with KidSuper and will “blend fashion and stand-up comedy”. Sounds interesting? Wait to see what unfolds.

KidSuper design and collaboration

KidSuper has been instrumental in delivering bold graphic prints and out-of-the-box designs. What started as just a business out of an NYU dorm room has now grown into a brand endorsed by the likes of Jack Harlow, Gucci Mane, and Mac Miller.

One of the hallmarks of this label is the ‘kiss’ motif. The design resembles two people kissing and is a canvas for Dillane to show off his graphic skills and imagination as he plays with contrasting colors and patterns. It is used on puffer coats, trench coats, jackets and handbags and has become an essential part of all of her collections. ‘

Some notable KidSuper collaborations include brands like Puma, Suicoke, and Tommy Hilfiger.
