HICKORY, NC – The Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Tennis Team earned a thrilling 4-3 win over Lees-McRee to win their first home game of the season.
It was a strong start for the Bears as they were able to take double points by sweeping the Bobcats. Doubles number 1 and number 3 were able to win by dominating with a set score of 6-2 in each match, while doubles team number 2 took their match with a 6-4 decision.
The bottom of the ladder is an important part of the sequence with the single number No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 won every game.
In singles No. 5, Patrik Alvestrand has a match today. The senior bounced back as he overcame his first set loss to win the match, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6(4).
Mauricio Hernandez had the best performance of all the Bears singles as he easily beat Ezequiel Arce on the No. 1 line. 4 with a result of 6-3, 6-2.
In singles No. 6, Joel Hemmings had a seesaw match against Andy Tallafigo. The junior took the opening set, 6-1, but lost the second, 0-6. In the third set, it was an even battle until Tallafigo had to retire at 6-6, just before the decisive tiebreak.
The Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Tennis Squad will return to the courts on Sunday, February 26 at 1:00 p.m. at the YMCA of Catawba Valley in Hickory, NC
