HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. (WCJB) – The Lions Club in High Springs helped organize a special prom for high school girls in Alachua County.
The club is holding its annual Cinderella’s Closet this weekend to give away prom dresses to girls who need them.
Every year, people in the community donate outfits to the club, and girls get to choose one for free.
“Seeing the girls’ faces and they’re shining,” said head dresser Shelly Smith, “They go in the three-way mirror there and they spin and they’re just in love. It’s such a great experience to see them, sometimes they can’t even go or get a dress if they don’t come here.”
The club goes beyond dresses and has all the necessary accessories to help style the perfect prom look.
“We have all kinds of accessories,” says Smith, “we have shoes, we have jewelry, we have someone changing her dress. It’s an amazing experience for everyone and to get dresses and have the experience, some girls can’t even do that, so we’re really having fun.”
Smith said they received more than 750 dresses from donations this year.
