Pharrell Williams was appointed as Louis Vuitton’s new Men’s Creative Director on February 14, replacing Virgil Abloh. Williams began his career as a record producer, rapper, singer and songwriter. However, despite his musical background, fashion forecasters predicted that if anyone could fill Abloh’s shoes, it would be Williams.
Abloh is an American designer best known for his work with Louis Vuitton starting in 2018 and his own label Off-White, founded in 2012. He took inspiration from music, art, and streetwear to create his fashion lines before passing away in November 2021 to a rare form of cancer that he had fought in secret for two years.
Even though Williams started as a singer, she is no stranger to the fashion industry. He created his own brands such as Billionaire Boys Club, clothing line and footwear line Ice Cream. As well as his own brand, he has also partnered and collaborated with other brands including Adidas and Italian luxury fashion house Moncler.
I am delighted to welcome Pharrell back home, following our collaborations in 2004 and 2008 for Louis Vuitton, as our new Men’s Creative Director. His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly take Louis Vuitton into new and very exciting chapters, said Louis Vuitton Chairman and CEO Pietro Beccari in a statement.
Because of Williams’ influence on today’s youth, the future of Louis Vuitton is in good hands. Williams can keep the fashion house alive, successful and relevant to the next generation of customers for years to come. The first collection will be revealed next June during Mens Fashion Week in Paris.
