Kate Middleton’s Top Easter Fashion Moments

Easter, as an important religious festival observed by Christians around the world, marks a central celebration in the British royal family’s annual calendar.

This year will mark the first Easter celebrated by the monarchy with the new King Charles III as its head. Every year the sultan attends Maundy Thursday ceremonies in different cathedrals around England. On Easter Sunday, according to tradition, members of the royal family gather at Windsor Castle for a special church service in St George’s Chapel within the castle walls.

Kate Middleton has been among the royal troupe who attends Sunday services for four of her 12 years of marriage to Prince William. Since 2017 he has started attending every year with a two-year gap due to the COVID pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

As with Kate’s ceremonial appearance, royal watchers waited expectantly to see what she wore. For each of her Easter Sunday services so far, Kate has paid homage to her environmental sensibilities and donned a re-dress that debuted at high-profile events before.

2017

For her first appearance at the royal Easter Sunday service in St. George in 2017, Kate Middleton wore a cream coat dress with detailed stitching and a Peter Pan collar.

The coat was designed by Catherine Walker & Co., a London-based house that rose to prominence in the 1980s and 1990s for dressing Princess Diana. Discovered during her pregnancy with Prince William, Diana developed a close working relationship with the designer, Walker, and by the end of her life the house had dressed her for more state events than any other.

Kate began to build her own relationship with the business, which is now being led by Walker’s late husband, Said Cyrus, after her marriage in 2011.

To accompany her coat dress, Kate wore a matching pillbox hat with cream suede heels and a clutch bag. The coat dress itself is a re-suit, first debuting in 2016 on a royal tour of Canada with William, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte.

2018

For the royal Easter Sunday service in 2018, Kate again wore a rare black ensemble also designed by Catherine Walker & Co.

The princess is expecting her third child, Prince Louis, and was wearing back the loose dark coat dress she first wore while pregnant with Princess Charlotte at the St. Patrick’s Day parade. Patrick in 2015 of the Irish Guards.

Kate also returned to wearing the same accessories from her original ensemble. For the hat, the Duchess chose a brown suede pillbox hat in the “Betty Boop” style from Lock & Co., and for jewelry, she chose a pearl brooch and large hoop earrings.

2019

In 2019, Kate Middleton wore the outfit she first styled for an Easter service five years earlier while she and Prince William were touring Australia and New Zealand.

The duchess wore a dove gray coat dress, again by Catherine Walker & Co., featuring a hemmed princess with a stand-up collar and fluted cuffs.

For accessories, Kate wore a custom hat from London-based Jane Taylor Millinery and carried a clutch bag from the design team on the back of her 2011 wedding gown to Alexander McQueen.

2022

For her latest Easter Sunday appearance at Windsor Castle, Kate dived into her extensive fashion archive and returned to wearing a pale blue coat dress from designer Emilia Wickstead.

Wickstead is a designer who has dressed Kate and her sister-in-law, Meghan Markle, for many high-profile events. Notably, she designed the emerald green outfit worn by Meghan to her last engagement as a working member of the royal family in 2020.

Kate first wore her blue Wickstead coat gown for a rare solo visit to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in 2017 and updated her look with a blue pleated headdress from Jane Taylor Millinery that she first wore in 2019.
