Caftans are over – here are six beach covering trends to try this summer

Of the celebrity vacations we’ve glimpsed this time of year thanks to social media, it’s worth noting that few people have bothered in their poolside high heels and peacock ponchos (except for the Love Islanders). Emma Fletcher, founder of resort clothing retailer Beach Cafe, says customers no longer want to pack seven different caftans for their everyday holiday statement look, they want fresh ideas, and pieces that will work harder and prove more useful. in their wardrobes, beyond just their annual vacation snaps.

While caftans used to be a summertime staple, we’re finding this is no longer the case with declining caftan sales, says Fletcher. Many of our customers already have large holiday wardrobes, so are looking for something different that they might not have purchased in years past. The versatile beach pant with a matching shirt is one of our most popular looks of the season, with the playsuit also a popular and practical alternative to the classic caftan.

Fletcher says that carrying only a carry-on bag is now a priority for many people when going abroad, and has driven a change in what people take with them.

Customers are packing smarter to take advantage of the items that are being offered for less, he said. This is why sarongs are gaining popularity as they can be worn as a beach wrap, halter dress or paired with a blouse and jewelery for a sleek evening look.
A simpler holiday look doesn’t need to be boring. Arranging what you really want to wear from the beach, to the restaurant for lunch, and also when you get home, actually feels quite novel. The holidays are coming when it’s time to pack up without the hassle.
