DMU’s fashion students create impressive designs for shows watched by industry giants

Fashion students wow industry professionals in their latest catwalk show. De Montfort University hosted the Contour Fashion show which saw industry legend Zandra Rhodes sit front row at last week’s event

The course, founded in 1947, is the oldest and most successful title in ‘intimate wear’, making it a household name in the industry. So it’s no surprise that the event attracted over 100 industry professionals such as Next, George at Asda and John Lewis.

Students take courses annually to specialize in disciplines covering areas such as underwear, sportswear, swimwear and corsets. And this time, all the students featured in the event have started their studies during the Corona virus pandemic.

Abi Free, who has now got a job at sportswear company Samurai said: “When you do a course like contouring yes it is tough and competitive but we all support each other and we all have very different styles so we are there for each other.”

Students draw inspiration from everything from Greek tragedy to nature, women’s empowerment and their favorite beaches to create their final collection. Designer Zandra Rhodes, who contributed more than 30 years of design archive material to DMU this year, came out to support the students.

He said: “I thought it was very professional. Beautiful ideas, great fit, and it all flows wonderfully.”
