ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons has opened up about the health struggles of his former bandmate Dusty Hill before his death earlier this week.

The news of the guitarist’s death was confirmed on Wednesday (July 28) by the group’s longtime representative, who said Hill died at home in his sleep. The cause of death was not revealed.

“We are saddened by the news today of the death of Compadre, Dusty Hill, while sleeping at his home in Houston, Texas,” Gibbons and Frank Bird, the remaining members of ZZ Top, said in a statement.

“We, along with legions of big ZZ fans around the world, will miss your constant presence, your good nature and your enduring commitment to bringing this huge bottom to the ‘top.’ We will forever be associated with the band ‘Blues Shuffle in C.'”

They added, “We will miss you very much, my friend.”

On Thursday (July 29), ZZ Top announced that their recently started tour will resume on Friday (July 30) after a short delay, with Elwood Francis, their guitar technique for 30 years.

Now, speaking in a new interview, striker Gibbons recalled Hill’s health struggles as well as the moment he asked to leave the final round.

“He asked to isolate himself,” Gibbons told Variety. He said, ‘Yes, let me go check this out. And of course I said, ‘Hey, man, health is number one. Go and do whatever you want. And I could tell by those two brave attempts, if he didn’t give him 110 percent, he was the first to say, ‘Jee wheeze. Let’s go and take care of this. “

Speaking about Hill’s health, Gibbons said, “It’s no secret that for the past few years he’s been in a very difficult case with a broken shoulder, followed by a broken hip. And he’s had some problems with some ulcers. So he’s on tiptoe through Keeping the ship in shape, as best he can. But I think that was a real challenge. And by throwing in the towel, you might have caught it. Who knows? I’m glad it’s in a good place.”

When asked about his condition since the news of Hale’s death, Gibbons replied, “Having gone through the grieving process, I can tell you that no less than anyone else loses a good friend or close partner. Meanwhile, knowing that this happened all of a sudden—going to bed and not Waking up… This was a lottery luck. He was inside and he was outside.”

Although there is no official word on Hill’s cause of death, it has been revealed that the guitarist died in his sleep, which Gibbons said is all they can determine at this point.

“Let’s face it, you don’t have to die from a broken shoulder or a broken hip,” he said. “Although the attending physician had warned him earlier that bursitis was not uncommon, even arthritis, and they said it was not a very comfortable place. I could tell he was moving a bit slowly. Oh boy, these shoulder and hip are really starting,” he said. Turning into a problem.” But, as of this juncture, yes, it was a journey to dreamland and beyond.

Since the news of his death spread, a number of people have taken to social media to pay homage to Hill.

Paul Stanley from Kiss wrote: Fantastic! Dusty Hill. What a symbol. @ZZTop guitarist forever. Unique. Always a gentleman from the days we opened them to the last days they opened to us. I don’t know what to say but “Thank you” and “Rest away but you choose well!”

Ozzy Osbourne said, “Rest in peace #DustyHill from ZZTop. My thoughts are with BillyfGibbons, Frank Beard, and all #ZZTop fans around the world.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott added, “Today we lost a great friend and a wonderful Texas. Bassist Dusty Hill dead from ZZ Top at age 72 is a truly musical legend.”
