Jungle Cruise won at the domestic box office $34.2 million in theaters, and $30 million on Disney+

Disney’s Jungle Cruise sailed its way to winning the domestic box office with $34.2 million in its opening weekend. The film earned another $30 million through Disney + Premier Access and $27.6 million at the international box office for a worldwide total of $90 million.

Disney shared the news in a press release, also saying that it remains focused on “offering consumer choices during these unprecedented times.”

A Disney spokesperson said: “Jungle Cruise is the perfect summer adventure movie, bringing a beloved theme park to both the big screen and living rooms in a way that only Disney can.” Fans and families clearly value being able to make decisions about how they would like to enjoy Disney’s best-in-class storytelling.”

In our Jungle Cruise review, we said it was “a humorous and heartfelt adventure anchored by the winning champions Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.”

While Jungle Cruise didn’t quite outperform Black Widow in a weekend that saw the MCU movie earn $80 million at the domestic box office and $60 million in Disney + Premier Access, it did overtake Cruella’s opening $21.5 million domestically.

Variety notes that Jungle Cruise cost $200 million to produce, which means it would be considered a huge disappointment if times were different, as a movie “with that price tag would typically have to generate at least $500 million globally to break even.”

Jungle Cruise, like Black Widow and Cruella, has been released on Day and Date in theaters and on Disney+. This led to a major problem between Disney and Scarlett Johansson, as the Black Widow star sued the company for breach of contract after the movie was released on the day and date on Disney+ after confirming it would be released exclusively in theaters.
