Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will take a lot of positive from the result – and with Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane still joining the squad, United will be optimistic about a strong start to the new Premier League season.

Here’s how United put Everton to the sword…

Mason Greenwood (8 minutes): The young England striker made a defensive error as Jordan Pickford hit the ball his way, leaving the teenager with a slight finishing touch from the right of the penalty area.

Harry Maguire (15 min): Back in the starting line-up after England’s European Championship journey, Maguire joined Luke Shaw in second place for United, as the club captain sent a header from the left-back’s corner.

Maguire hasn’t scored enough headers for United to give him his ability in the air, but this effort suggests things could change this season.

Bruno Fernandez (29 minutes): The goal of the day – and of course it was the Portuguese. Fernandes went up and curled home a free kick defined in the upper right corner of Pickford’s net from the goal.

Diogo Dalot (92 minutes): Last but not least, the full-back – as a substitute – headed a recurring effort into the goal in injury time.

Dalot’s future at the club is uncertain, but if he’s leaving on loan or permanently this summer, it’s as good a way to sign as any.
