NHS Covid app check-ins down 75 per cent after ‘pandemic’ chaos

The number of people using the NHS Covid app is rapidly declining as people shun it in the wake of the “pandemic” chaos earlier in the summer, according to official NHS figures.

Data shows that the app was used 1.7 million times last week to scan a place’s QR code — a 75 percent drop from the previous two weeks, when there were 6.7 million check-ins.

Unique QR codes are displayed by restaurants, bars, gyms, stores and cafes, with people scanning them to let the app system know their whereabouts and help keep track of contacts. The app is used in England and Wales.

Weekly check-ins peaked in the week ending June 1 – as England adjusted to easing restrictions on May 17 and people flocked to newly reopened places – with a total of 14.5 million.

But with the lifting of Covid measures, cases rose and so did the number of alerts informing people that they had been in contact with someone who tested positive for the virus and should be isolated.

This led to a rapid rise in app alerts sent throughout June and July. For the week ending June 2, 47,406 were sent, and that rose to 363,974 four weeks later—a more than sevenfold increase. The number continued to rise, reaching a record high of nearly 700,000 in the week ending July 21. The “pandemic” has led to staff shortages and reports of companies instructing employees to delete the app.
