Beauty salons across the war-torn country have already felt the full power of the Taliban. A number of pictures of the front of an outlet with pictures of women mutilated using pain spray spread in Char-e-Now in the capital, Kabul, Afghanistan. Other photos show an armed Taliban fighter with a large rifle slung over his shoulder as he walks past the same salon, with pictures of mutilated women in the background.

The latest shocking images from Afghanistan come after the Taliban held their first official press conference in Kabul since the sudden capture of the city.

There were growing fears that the Taliban would now flex its muscles to wrest power from thousands of women.

But the Taliban announced on Tuesday their desire to establish peaceful relations with other countries, while insisting that they would respect women’s rights within the framework of Islamic law.

“We don’t want any internal or external enemies,” said the group’s main spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid.

He stressed that women will be allowed to work and study and “will be very active in society but within the framework of Islam.”

“The Islamic Emirate is committed to women’s rights within the framework of Islamic law,” the spokesman told reporters in Kabul.

“Our sisters have the same rights, they will be able to take advantage of their rights.

“They can have activities in different sectors and different fields based on our rules and regulations, education, health and other areas.

Mr. Borrell called for safe and unhindered humanitarian access to Afghan women, men and children who need it.

Earlier today, the European Union, the United States and 19 other countries gathered to issue a statement calling on the people leading Afghanistan to ensure the protection of women and girls in the country.

“We are deeply concerned about Afghan women and girls, their rights to education, work and freedom of movement,” the statement read.

“We in the international community are ready to help them with humanitarian aid and support, to ensure that their voices are heard.”

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has come under pressure over his government’s response to the crisis in Afghanistan.

On Tuesday evening, it was announced that Britain would take in up to 5,000 Afghans during the first year of the new resettlement programme.

A total of 20,000 will be welcomed over the next five years, with priority given to women, girls, religious and other minorities.
