Ainsley Maitland-Niles has told Arsenal he wants to leave the club and “go where I want” amid reports that Everton have been turned down by the 24-year-old midfielder.
Maitland-Niles has yet to start with Arsenal this season and spent the second half of last season on loan to West Bromwich, who were relegated from the Premier League.
The former England international is being seen as an option for Everton manager Rafa Benitez given his ability to play at right-back, a position the club are looking to boost ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
But after reports emerged that Arsenal had rejected an Everton loan offer, Maitland-Niles took to his Instagram story to ask the club to let him leave before the end of the window.
“All I want to do is go where I want and where I’m going to play,” Maitland-Niles wrote, before marking the club in his position.
Arsenal made their worst ever start to the Premier League season under Arteta, losing their first three games of the season.
Maitland-Niles was a second-half substitute in Saturday’s 5-0 defeat to Manchester City while also making an appearance in the 6-0 League Cup win over West Bromwich during the week.
Arsenal are not involved in European football this season, which means that playing opportunities are more limited to those on the sidelines of the starting eleven.
