Madeleine Sajstrom was involved in a controversial rules incident during her match alongside Nana Korsz-Madsen at four balls on Saturday at the Solheim Cup.
The Scandinavian duo were perfectly squared in their match against world number one Nelly Korda and Ally Ewing with six holes to play, only to fall behind when the rules official stepped in for 13th.
Corda’s vulture attempt stopped at the edge of the hole and was quickly picked up by Sagstrom, who was conceding a birdie’s strike, only to show she hadn’t let go long enough before touching the ball.

The Olympic gold medal winner will be given a “reasonable time” to get to the hole and 10 seconds to see if the ball falls, under Rule 13.3, with Sagstrom back to Korda within that time threshold.
Although Korda did not question Byrdie’s concession and the European players were adamant that the ball would not have fallen into the cup, the official rules gave the American with the eagle the credit for winning the hole and moving it up.

Sajstrom and Kurtis Madsen were unable to make their way back into the game as the last five holes were halved as the Americans won one cup to claim the hosts’ first win of the week.
Annie Giangrosso, who is in charge of the rules, later explained the decision, saying: “When the European player picked up that ball, according to the rules of golf, it was cut and dried well. That hit by Nelly was already in hiding.”
Asked if there was any doubt as to whether the ball was hanging from the hole, Giangroso added: “It was very clear. We have Joao Pinto, a LET official, in the TV booth and he was looking at it right away after the match referee called him.”
“It was a quick and clear decision that the ball was hanging out of the hole.”
