Sir Alex Ferguson, the former Manchester United manager, has revealed that he convinced Glazers to buy Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.
At one point, the Portugal international appeared to be on his way to arch-rivals Man City in the summer transfer window, before Ferguson stepped in.
He returns to the five-time Ballon d’Or winner Old Trafford and has signed a two-year deal with a third option for an initial fee of £12.86m.
Ole set up Sancho for failure, Nuno, AMN, Arteta, and more messages…
Ronaldo won three Premier League medals and one Champions League medal on his first assignment at Old Trafford and continued to enjoy a career full of titles after his departure to Real Madrid and then to Juventus.
United’s success since Ferguson’s departure in 2013 has been even more fleeting, and it’s been eight years since they won the Serie A title, but Ronaldo’s surprise return to the North West could give them a shot in the arm.
Ronaldo got off to a perfect start on Saturday, scoring twice in the 4-1 win over Newcastle United at Old Trafford, as Manchester United climbed to the top of the Premier League.

The 36-year-old has already admitted Ferguson’s impact on his return to Manchester United and now the former Red Devils boss has revealed how he “contributed” to the forward’s return home.
Ferguson told Viaplay before the match against Newcastle: “I went out like everyone else, there was anticipation all day yesterday and I get up in the morning. Speaking on behalf of all the fans, it’s a fantastic day for Manchester United.
“A lot of people played their part (in bringing Ronaldo back) and it helped me know that Cristiano really wants to come here and that’s important.
“It worked very well. I wouldn’t say it’s emotional but it’s exciting for me and comforting because I didn’t imagine him playing for Man City, I don’t think anyone could.
“That’s why we took steps to make sure he comes here and then the club followed him very well and I spoke to the Glazers and that’s done.
“I think he will have an impact on the young players in particular, he has the experience to handle the occasion.”
