The result of the Porto-Liverpool match: Mohamed Salah scored a double against the Reds in the Champions League

Jurgen Klopp’s insistence that Liverpool would not be fed up with his two previous victories in Porto came true as his side advanced once again at the Estadio do Dragao.

Sergio Conceicao could be forgiven for waving the white flag in the second announcement of this match in the future, having overseen a streak of three defeats since 2018, in which 14 goals were conceded and only two goals scored.

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino were the familiar scorers on Tuesday night, although Diogo Costa did not offer much resistance. He made a very poor goalkeeper tradition, and the weakness of Liverpool’s performance is that they did not force the score ruthlessly to tell the full story of their dominance.

That could be the only criticism of a 5-1 female lead, scored with confidence and without a sweat, which may have been a nice job for Porto.

Champions League matches shouldn’t be that easy, but the Merseysiders somehow always manage to throw a usually resilient steel team into utter chaos.

There was not one eye on Sunday’s clash with Manchester City as Klopp picked his strongest possible squad here.

Unfortunately for Liverpool, there was no Trent Alexander-Arnold who had a thigh injury that could keep him on the sidelines in this weekend’s mega match. James Milner’s glass break was activated at right-back and the emergency situation was once again fantastic.

Porto conceded a defensive hit of their own as Pepe, who was highly questionable, was called a starter but was knocked out during the warm-up. Fabio Cardoso replaced the veteran, before Ottavio also succumbed to an early attack with Fabio Vieira – discovered by Liverpool – in midfield for him.

The bad news continued to reach them. Porto was completely swept into the middle of the park, as young Curtis Jones pulled the strings and separated them alongside Fabinho and Jordan Henderson.

Conceicao’s men were eventually suffocated, beaten, and bombed. Turning their woes on the scoreboard began at 19 minutes when Salah took advantage of a combination of Jones’s brilliance and the barely-recognized Costa keeper.

The 20-year-old Liverpool midfielder cut down the left flank and fired in a low shot as Porto’s stopper meekly parried Zedo Sanusi. The ball was broken for Salah, who couldn’t believe his fortune, from four yards away.

Jones was excellent at keeping the ball alive for the second, before Milner made a nod to Alexander-Arnold with a stunning low cross from the right that Costa had rebounded.

While the rest of Porto’s defense turned into laws, Mane had no such hesitation or freezing.

Another goal designed by Jones ended with Salah unmarked passing the ball out of Costa to make it 3-0.

Liverpool took the opportunity to rest the players with Al-Masry, replacing Milner, Mane and Henderson with Firmino, Joe Gomez, Takumi Minamino and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

There was a fleeting relief for Porto when Mehdi Tarmi advanced in front of Gomez to thunder at a header close to the post.

The homeowners tried to motivate themselves and the fans, but three minutes later Costa issued another howl. The goalkeeper was stranded after getting off a long ball from Jones he shouldn’t have been trying to claim and Firmino carelessly flew home.

Costa turned back to avoid the chaos but the ball passed over the line before he could intervene. Tragic, comedic, bizarre, shocking.

The pain did not stop there. Jones fired a shot from distance, but his effort was blocked but Firmino collected the loose ball and diverted – a lengthy VAR check confirms it was not offside.

Conceicao rallied his men in the center of the circle after the final whistle to raise them. Your white flag shopping should start now.
