The road on the A4 in London is heavily flooded after heavy rain overnight

Heavy rains in London caused flash floods in the capital, disrupting roads and shutting down the underground on Tuesday.

More than an inch of rain fell in an hour in some parts of the city overnight, with St James’s Park among the worst hit areas. It saw a total of 26 mm in just sixty minutes, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

As a result of the heavy rain, Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed that there are “severe” delays on some tube lines.

Above ground, the floods hit tourist attractions such as Knightsbridge, with firefighters present to open the drainage there.

Elsewhere, there is no service between Willesden Junction and Clapham Junction due to flooding at Imperial Wharf.

Meanwhile, an entire runway on the A4 near Hammersmith Flyover in west London was sunk.
