Stokes played 71 Tests, 101 one-day caps and 34 T20s for England
Former England assistant coach Paul Farbris says the presence of Ben Stokes at the Ashes Series this winter will “motivate” tourists in Australia.
“It brings a lot,” Farbris told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“I think it really pushed it to be a great series and I’m excited about it.”
Stokes received full certification of innocence from his advisor and the England and Wales Cricket Board after undergoing a second operation on a broken finger.
He broke his left index finger while playing for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League in April, and was left out of England’s squad for the T20 World Cup, but recovered after a second operation on him in early October to remove two nails and scar tissue.
Farbrace, Warwickshire’s cricket manager, says Stokes will provide England “balance” in their quest to get the Ashes back.
“Every time England pick a team in the summer they try to balance a team without Ben Stokes,” he said.
“We were very lucky when I was involved with England, and he was available often.
“[England captain] Joe Root and [coach] Chris Silverwood will be delighted to be back in the dressing room.”
– deal with it
Farbrace says both the player and the team have benefited from Stokes’ decision to pull out of England’s five-Test series against India this summer.
“He made a very courageous decision personally and he’s dealt with it,” Farberese said.
“The England team has given him time and space and the fact that he is now back in the group, I think he will really motivate this team.
“The way he is as a person, he brings a lot of confidence and calm.
“We saw how cool he was with Jofra [Archer] Before the Super ends in the World Cup final, and he does it day in and day out.”
Stokes was England’s top scorer in the 2019 series between the two teams, scoring 441 times with an average of 55.12, including an unforgettable century that helped secure an unforgettable third Test win at Headingley.
The Durham all-around rider will travel to Australia along with the test specialists and the Lions supplement group on November 4.
The Five-Test Ashes series is scheduled to begin on December 8 and end on January 18.
