Match review: Aston Villa vs West Ham on 10/31/2021

Catch all the action as Aston Villa host West Ham United in the Premier League this afternoon.

Pressure is starting to build on Dean Smith after a disappointing start to the season, with Villa currently in 15th place, having won just three of their nine games this season. The victory could push Villa to 11th place, but they entered the game after three consecutive defeats, most recently at Arsenal, which saw Smith’s team completely outclass. The coach fended off criticism this week, however, insisting that any negativity had been blown out of proportion and that he expects a positive response from his team.

Meanwhile, West Ham entered the match full of confidence after a brilliant start to their own campaign. David Moyes’ side are fourth in the Premier League table, have won their last four games in all competitions, and are on the cusp of securing their place in the Europa League knockout stages as well. The Hammers knocked out defending champions Manchester City from the Carabao Cup on penalties on Wednesday and won’t want to give up any momentum after such an impressive string of results. Until the 80th minute, I didn’t really think West Ham had played well against the FIA 10 men. But Moyes’ team found their clinical edge when it was needed most to overtake Dean Smith’s team, who are heading to a fourth straight defeat.

Villa Park has been emptied as West Ham fans chant “Parents!” on every pass.

Villa would be sad that the two players involved in the previous incident had a role in the goal – but the goal was coming. It was just a case of West Ham taking advantage of their chance.
