Tom Parker of The Wanted shared an emotional update on his brain tumor, telling fans that the cancer has been “under control.”

The 33-year-old pop star and father of two revealed in October 2020 that he had been diagnosed with a tumor, which at the time was said to be “inoperable” and “definitive”.

Parker posted a picture of him, his wife Kelsey Hardwicke and their children on social media channels on Wednesday, writing: “I’m sitting here with tears in my eyes as I tell you. My brain tumor has been under control.”

a trip. Honestly over the moon. We can sleep a little tonight. Thank you for all your love and support for the past 12 months or more. Love from me, Kelsey, Aurelia and Bo

“We got the results of my last check up… and I’m happy to say it’s stable.”

The star said he was feeling “a mix of emotions” and “couldn’t ask for more”.

Parker thanked fans and well-wishers for the support he and his family have received since announcing his diagnosis, and said he is “over the moon.”

The star was diagnosed with grade 4 glioblastoma — an aggressive cancer that can occur in the brain or spinal cord — in 2020. The average life expectancy for those diagnosed is 12 to 18 months, according to the Brain Tumor Research charity.

Last month, the star appeared at a Stand Up To Cancer event on Channel 4, which raised £31,169,340.

Parker formed The Wanted with bandmates Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Nathan Sykes and Jay McGuiness in 2009 and topped the charts for the first time with their debut single, All Time Low the following year.

The band went on to release three albums before stopping indefinitely at the beginning of 2014.

They announced their comeback earlier in 2021, with Parker telling Sky News he feels “good” about his treatment.

“I think a lot of people were surprised by this disease,” he said at the time. I feel so much better than I did two months ago.

“When we had the initial conversation [about reuniting]I was as if I wasn’t sure I would be able to do this, just for my health. But with my health improving, here I am today.”

He also said his bandmates have helped him get through the last year, saying, “The boys have been a great support system.”
