Frank Lampard withdraws from competition to become the new head coach of Norwich | Norwich City

[ad_1]

Frank Lampard has dropped out of the race to become Norwich City’s team manager. The former Chelsea boss held talks on Thursday about replacing Daniel Varkey but decided the role was not for him.

Norwich, who could switch his focus to Dean Smith, are last in the Premier League after 11 games and have identified Lampard as a possible successor to Farc. The 43-year-old has been out of management since Chelsea sacked him last January and is eager to find a job.

It is understood that the talks between Norwich and Lampard went well. The club had not decided whether to offer Lampard the job before telling them he no longer wished to be considered.

The former England midfielder, who missed out on the Crystal Palace role last summer, knows he needs to choose his next role carefully and knows that saving Norwich from relegation will be very difficult. They are tired since winning the promotion and are unlikely to have much to spend during the January transfer window.

Norwich, who sacked Farke after beating Brentford last Saturday, will continue to speak to the other candidates. Lampard’s withdrawal may increase Smith’s chances of getting the job. Aston Villa Smith was sacked last Sunday and has fans at Carrow Road, although it is understood he needs a few days to decide if he wants to return to management so quickly.

Norwich has also been linked with Ralph Hessenhuttl, but it is unlikely that they will be able to lure the Austrian from Southampton. Kjetil Knutsen, manager of the Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt, is another name in the frame.
