Chelsea’s Edward Mendy and Real Madrid’s Ferland Mendy have complained about the media’s use of their photos to clarify news reports about Benjamin Mendy, a Manchester City player, accused of rape and sexual assault.
Benjamin Mendy, the French international, has been charged with six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. He has yet to file a formal petition, but his lawyer said the player denied the allegations. City suspended the 27-year-old, who has been in custody since August.
Edouard Mendy is the Senegal international and Ferland Mendy plays for France. The two, who are cousins, shared screenshots of reports from several media outlets using their photos for reports on Benjamin Mendy.
“It is sad to see that in 2021, in France as well as in England, for some, blacks have neither distinct names nor faces,” Edward wrote in an Instagram story. “These errors in the pictures seem anecdotal, but in reality they are quite the opposite, they are very symbolic.
“It’s not complicated to tell two faces, especially when a football shirt is so useful!”
