Terrence Crawford became the first man to stop Sean Porter in a major indication of his brilliance Saturday night in Las Vegas.
The undefeated Crawford retained his WBO welterweight championship by flooring Porter twice and ending his opponent’s resistance in the 10th round.
It was a brutal display of Crawford’s merits to be known as the world’s best fighter because Porter, a two-time champion, was the toughest and most experienced opponent of his career.

Errol Spence Jr., the reigning FIFA and WBC champion who has long been Crawford’s most sought-after rival, left his ringside seat and walked off during Porter’s death.
Porter would later admit that Crawford was a more impressive opponent than Spence Jr.
They exchanged stinging right hands in the second round when a brawl broke out that Porter overtook him.
Crawford smiled sadly under intense scrutiny of Porter’s trademark pressure.

An accidental clash of heads in the third round made a huge cut over Porter’s eye.
Crawford, who switched from the orthodox stance to the south stance, began controlling the speed in fourth with the accuracy of his left hand.
But another occasional head-back left Crawford’s eye damaged, a stark reminder that Porter had no intention of conceding an inch of ground.
By the ninth of Crawford’s succession of sinister left hands on the body, the shot he had been constantly firing all night was leaving a trail.

Sean Porter’s father and coach are unhappy with his son’s preparation
Crawford surged higher by throwing a left to the head while Porter wound forward inflicting a knockout on the tenth.
Moments later, Porter was brought back to the ground after Crawford struck him with his right hand.
Frustrated Porter twice hit the canvas for being so outgunned. His father and coach Kenny Porter stepped into the arena and pulled his son out of the fight.
Crawford won all of his 38 fights, with 29 knockouts. This was his ninth stop in a row.
