TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The North Sumatra region of Nias was hit in the early hours of Tuesday by a 5.0-magnitude earthquake, according to the latest report from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) today.
The agency said that the quake occurred at dawn at 04:15 WIB, and its epicenter was 118 km from the shore southwest of Nias. Fortunately, they reported that it did not trigger a tsunami warning.
The BMKG reported that it was from a depth (low center) of 10 km and was only felt in the West Nias region measured with a III MMI intensity meter.
The region was last hit by a similar, relatively strong earthquake on November 2, when a 6.2-magnitude quake shook the region in the morning, followed by a 5.0-magnitude quake in the evening.
Both previous earthquakes had the same depth and epicenter as the last one.
