Another earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale hit Myanmar on Saturday afternoon.
According to Volcano Discovery, the earthquake occurred at 3:50 pm (Bangladesh time).
People felt the earthquake in Chattogram. There were no immediate reports of damage.
Earlier on Friday morning, an earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale hit the border area between Myanmar and India.
Two stronger sharp tremors were felt in Chattogram, Dhaka and various parts of Bangladesh at about 5:45 am today.
According to the USGS, the epicenter was near Hakka, Chin State, Myanmar.
A four-storey building has been sloping towards the adjacent building in Chattogram due to Friday’s earthquake.
“Today the entire Himayan Range has experienced a series of earthquakes starting from Mw 2.0-6.0 maximum,” said Biswajit Nath, a teacher of geography and environmental studies at the University of Chittagong and also a researcher in natural disasters.
All this happened within 30 minutes. It is an internal movement indicating that all thrust fault lines are active, he said, adding that a significant indicator of a larger earthquake will occur in the near future.
