Newcastle manager Eddie Howe described Diogo Jota’s equalizer with Liverpool on Thursday as “unfair”, as Isaac Hayden was injured in the match.

Liverpool beat Newcastle 3-1 in the Premier League encounter at Anfield, but there was controversy in the first half as Jota canceled Jonjo Shelvey’s opener.

But the overall performance was positive for Newcastle, with Howe saying: “The players really gave everything for the game physically. You can see that, Liverpool move the ball really fast and we had to work hard to contain them, but I felt the players did that very well, we scored a great goal. On the counterattack, Maxi was a threat in isolated moments of the match when we were able to feed him the ball.

“Maybe I was disappointed with the second half on the ball. I felt we could have shown more composure to open them up in those moments we were in the transfers.

“But in terms of what the players have given, their attitude and commitment to it, I thought we had the mentality about us today we had against Leicester where we were right in the game until the end. I felt at any moment, we could get something today.”

Meanwhile, Jürgen Klopp was full of praise for Alexander-Arnold after his thrilling third goal. The right-back took one touch before blasting off from 25 yards.

The Liverpool boss told BT Sport: “He was amazing, unbelievable. His shooting style is on a completely different level. In matches like this, keeping positive, staying on the offensive in moments like this, just take the chance. Thank God, Mike Dean is Good on his legs so he can get away!”
