Boris Johnson resists calls to cut self-isolation to save the NHS | News

Boris Johnson is resisting calls by scientists, health professionals and Tory MPs to stave off the NHS staff crisis by cutting the coronavirus self-isolation period to five days.

Health chiefs have warned that staff absences caused by a seven-day isolation requirement after a positive test threatens to cause a bigger problem than the number of Coviwd-19 patients being admitted to hospitals.

Scientists, health professionals, hospitality chiefs and conservative lawmakers have called on the government to emulate the United States, which has reduced the self-isolation period to five days. Last week, Johnson’s government reduced it from ten to seven days.
