Emma Watson says she felt “extremely confused” before being reunited with members of the original Harry Potter films for a one-off TV special.

But the actress, who played the bookworm Hermione Granger, ended up with a “pleasant surprise” to relive the years spent making the eight-movie series.

The films, which took 10 years to shoot while Watson and her co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint were mostly teenagers, propelled the youngsters to global fame.

And in a clip released by HBO Max, which produced the special, she said, “We haven’t seen each other in years.

“It was just such a joy, an unexpected joy. I didn’t really know how it would feel.

She added: “I was so tired this morning and so pleasantly surprised just to get everything back.

“It feels like not so long has passed, so long has passed,” she said in an earlier clip of her.

When does the program start?

In Return to Hogwarts, which airs on Sky and the Now TV streaming service from New Year’s Day, Watson is filmed reuniting with Radcliffe, Grint, and a host of other famous faces on the 20th anniversary of the release of Harry Potter and Philosopher’s Stone, the first movie in the series.

Join the director of the first two films, Chris Columbus, to discuss beloved films and explore her creativity.

Since the films were released, the author of the books they are based on, J.K. Rowling, has sparked controversy over her comments on transgender identity, including from stars Watson, Radcliffe and Grint.

Rowling’s new books are now a spin-off

Rowling, 56, whose books have gone on to become films in an episodic series, said she was excited in part to speak out about transgender issues because of her experience with domestic violence and sexual assault.

Actor Chris Rankin, who played Percy Weasley on the series, is the latest actor to take up his comments, telling the Eastern Daily Press, “I do a lot of work with charities that focus on LGBTQ+…a lot of my family members are members of the community.”

“It’s a huge part of my life and I think by saying that, you can probably guess where my loyalties lie in that respect.

“The important thing to highlight is that when a trans person says they are male or female, that is their nature and this is how we should treat them. It is harmful for them to say otherwise.”
