Minor injuries were reported, but no deaths.
Authorities are using drones to check if anyone is trapped under any of the collapsed sections.
Police said the bridge – located on Forbes Street over Fern Hollow Creek in Frick Park – collapsed just before 7 a.m. local time on Friday.
An image of the scene showed a passenger bus erected on part of the structure.
City officials said the collapse caused a gas leak, but that the supply has now stopped.
Daryl Jones, a Pittsburgh fire official, said three or four cars were involved in the crash, 10 minor injuries, and three people were taken to hospital.

He added that there were no life-threatening injuries.
The White House said the US president would continue to visit the city.
“Our team is in contact with state and local officials on the ground as they continue to gather information about the cause of the collapse,” the statement said.
“The president is grateful to the first responders who rushed to help the drivers who were on the bridge at the time.”
