The infection rate based on PCR tests is only a guide to the prevalence of Covid in Wales because it does not include lateral flow test results, which are reported weekly in Wales. Asymptomatic people who test positive for LFT no longer need a confirmatory PCR test.
The latest data for lateral flow tests, published Thursday for the week ending January 30, shows that another 26,361 positive test results have been reported. This is up from 21,127 the previous week. The positivity also increased to 11.87%. The headlines from the latest ONS infection survey published at 2pm on Wednesday, February 2, indicate that the percentage of people who tested positive for Covid in Wales rose again during the week ending January 29.
It estimates that 139,100 people in Wales, equivalent to one in 20 people, contracted Covid in the week ending January 29, the same proportion in England. This is a jump of more than 1% compared to the previous week. Meanwhile, Scotland is estimated to have the lowest rates of Covid, with 1 in 30 people contracting Covid in the same week, while in Northern Ireland, it was around 1 in 15.
First Minister Mark Druckford confirmed a week ago that Wales had now taken full action to warn of the zero level.
this means:
Nightclubs can reopen. The social distancing of 2 meters in all buildings open to the public and workplaces has been removed. Table service and collect contact details. Working from home will remain important but will no longer be a legal requirement Businesses, employers and other organizations must continue to carry out a specific assessment of the coronavirus risks and take reasonable measures to reduce the spread of the coronavirus, which may include 2 million social distancing or controlled entry.
A Covid card will still be required to enter large indoor events, nightclubs, cinemas, theaters and concert halls.
It was also announced that people in Wales would be able to leave self-isolation after five full days provided they had two consecutive negative side flow tests on the fifth and sixth day, 24 hours apart.
The next three-week review of coronavirus regulations will take place by February 11 when the Welsh government will review all measures at alert level zero.
