Several fire engines are at the scene of a large blaze on an industrial estate in Devon. An explosion could be heard as flames ripped through the roof of a unit on Totnes Industrial Estate on Monday evening (April 25).

As many as six fire engines from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service are there, as well as police. An eyewitness at the scene of the fire said the affected business is Tideford Organic Foods: “An explosion was heard as flames ripped through the roof of a warehouse. Police and firefighters arrived on the scene at around 8.15pm. Crowds have gathered but the air is thick with acrid smoke coming out of the roof of the building. Firefighters have doused down the flames and are spraying hoses from both sides of the building. Police are clearing onlookers from the area amid concerns over the plastic fumes.”

One woman who was working there said: “I smelt it all night. It smelt like wax burning. I thought it was coming from the fly zapper. All of a sudden I could really smell it. Luckily one of the lads had just come in and came out of the toilet. He turned around and said sh** it’s on fire. Get out!”

Photos and videos taken by the eyewitness show flames and large plumes of black smoke. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has been contacted for further details.
