Jonnie Irwin in A Place in the Sun has revealed a nightmare mistake he made after being diagnosed with cancer.

The TV presenter, 49, revealed earlier that he was given six months to live by doctors.

Johnny, who has a wife and three young children, was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2020.

He told The Sun how bosses from Channel 4’s A Place in the Sun turned him away when they heard the news.

Johnny shares a health update, and was featured on Thursday’s edition of Morning Live.

He told the BBC program about the moment he knew something wasn’t right.

Irwin was filming in Italy at the time he got his “strange images” – when a crew member recognized his symptoms and drove him to a nearby hospital.

Reveal why it was kept out of the public domain for so long.

“I still don’t want people to treat me differently, I still don’t want to, I still need to work.

“So I kept it a secret for two and a half years.”

However, he told presenters Gethin Jones and Kimberly Walsh that he wished he “did more” when it came to life insurance.

Speaking of a costly mistake he made, he explained: “So when you get a terminal diagnosis, it covers you when you’re gone.

“But a final diagnosis” can last for years and will affect… your illness affects your work, so if you are unable to work and waiting for that amount, who will pay the rent?

“Serious illness is a policy that you follow along with that and that begins as soon as you become ill.

“I didn’t take that and that took a lot of the stress of having to work on the days I didn’t want to go to work, and that’s one mistake I tell everyone.”

Johnny recently shared snaps of his visit to Santa Claus with his wife and one of the couple’s children.
