Ukrainian forces managed to shoot down 60 of the 76 missiles launched by Russia in the morning.

A barrage of Russian missiles was launched from the Black and Caspian seas, including Kha-101, Kalibr and S-300 missiles.

Within minutes of the attack, all the cities of Kharkiv and Poltava were left without electricity. Kyiv was temporarily left without water, and both water and power supplies were completely disrupted in Kremenchug.

In Kryvyi Rih, the hometown of President Volodymyr Zelensky, a Russian missile hit a block of flats, destroying an entire staircase.

Local governor Valentin Reznichenko said that while rescue teams were searching through the rubble, they found three dead and 13, including four young children, injured.

Also in Kryvyi Rih, nearly 600 workers were trapped underground as missile strikes cut off electricity at the local coal mine. The rescue operation continued into the evening, with 250 rescued by late afternoon.

All metro trains were stopped in Kyiv on Friday morning as locals flocked to subway stations to get away from air attacks.

The city council said later on Friday that the metro would not reopen until at least Saturday, as Russian missiles hit some units serving the subway.

Authorities in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, which was heavily bombed in the early months of the war, said it appeared to have suffered one of the worst attacks in months. Ihor Terekhov, the city’s mayor, spoke of the “tremendous damage to the infrastructure” and promised to “do everything we can” to restore electricity.

On Friday evening, electricity was restored to a small part of the homes affected by the power outage.
