The capital’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said on Sunday that heating has been fully restored to Kyiv after recent Russian bombing targeting the water and electricity infrastructure.
“The city is restoring all services after the recent bombing,” Klitschko posted on the messaging app Telegram.
“In particular, the capital’s heating system has been fully restored. All heat supply sources are operating normally.”
Ukraine launched more than 70 missiles on Friday in one of its fiercest barrages since the Kremlin launched its invasion on February 24, knocking out power across the country and cutting off access to heat and water, Ukrainian officials said.
Temperatures in Kyiv and many places across Ukraine were below freezing Sunday morning, and forecasts expect it to drop to -6C in the capital by evening.
Kyiv is by far the largest city in Ukraine with an estimated population of about 3 million people, with up to 2 million residents in the Kyiv region.
As of late Saturday, a third of the city remained without power.
Sergey Kovalenko, CEO of YASNO, which supplies Kyiv with electricity, reported on Saturday evening that access to energy is increasing with every hour.
“The situation is still difficult and dangerous,” Kovalenko said on his Facebook account.
