Lionel Messi has been joined by Antonella Roccuzzo on the pitch to share the impressive World Cup success with her husband.

Having watched the 35-year-old score twice against France before scoring in the penalty shootout as Argentina won the title for the first time since 1986, there was understandable pride from Roccuzzo.

Messi didn’t miss a penalty as he sent Hugo Lloris the wrong way

Messi broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute from the penalty spot after Ángel Di Maria was adjudged to have been fouled by Ousmane Dembele.

Making no mistake from 12 yards out, Messi sent Hugo Lloris the wrong way as he slotted the penalty into the bottom right corner.

And his partner smiled happily as she celebrated his goal with friends and family.

Antonella has been a constant source of support for Messi in Qatar, as their three children are all in the Gulf country to cheer on their Paris Saint-Germain striker father.

After the semi-final victory over Croatia, Antonella was lost for words as she paid tribute to her beau on social media.

And after the thrilling finale – once she and the others had caught their breath – she celebrated.

And she wrote on Instagram about Messi: “I don’t even know how to begin … this is the greatest pride we feel for you.”

“Thank you for teaching us never to give up, we have to fight it to the end.

“Finally you are the world champion, we know what you have been struggling with for so many years, and you wanted to make it happen.

“Let’s go to Argentina.”

Messi’s first goal set him up to make World Cup history as he became the first man to score in every round from the group stage to the final.

He also played more matches in the World Cup [26] than any other soccer player.

Seven-time Ballon d’Or winner also overtook Italy’s Paolo Maldini to become the player with the most World Cup minutes.

On the night, things got better for Argentina in the 36th minute when Di Maria doubled his tally.

Messi started the move after playing in Julian Alvarez with a deft flick, the Manchester City striker then finding Alexis McAllister.

The Brighton star then picked the path of Di Maria, who volleyed the ball into the bottom right corner with his first over finish.

But Argentina collapsed in the closing stages as Kylian Mbappe scored two quick kicks on the death penalty to send the match into extra time.

Then Messi restored the lead for Argentina with a shot from close range, before Mbappe equalized again in the final penalty shootout.

Messi scored in the penalty shootout as Argentina won 4-2 on penalties to be a grand celebration in Doha and in Roccuzzo’s hometown of Rosario.

The couple, who have known each other since they were children, married in 2017, and she was one of his biggest supporters.

They have three sons, all of whom joined their hero father on the pitch, while Messi’s mum ran to hug her son full time.
