Rayan Ait Nouri’s 95th-minute winner gave Wolves their first away win of the season and lifted them from the bottom of the division.

Lopetegui constantly talked about instilling confidence in this team and hoping it would help a win, but he urged them to keep the same mindset no matter the outcome.

“It’s important for us because this team has suffered a lot in the last few months,” said Lopetegui.

“We’ve been working hard in the last month thinking about this match. It’s over now we’re happy, but it’s over.

“We have to keep working a lot. We had a lot of passes at the end of this match and Totti did very well.

“It is always important for the team to win, but we will lose games and we have to be ready to keep working hard. If we win or lose, we have to be ready the next day with a lot of personality to keep working.

“It’s going to be a very long race and we have to be ready for the good and the bad.”

In his first two matches, Lopetegui showed a willingness to make early substitutions to help Wolves recover or impact the game – as he did in the Carabao Cup victory over Gillingham.

Ait Nouri, Matheus Nunes and Adama Traore came on in the 59th minute at Goodison Park, and the trio combined to score the winning goal with a quick counter-attack.

The head coach insists that every player on game day is essential and he is keen to have his seat ready to come in and change the game.

“All changes because we think we can improve something,” added Lopetegui. “The players who came are working with a great mentality.

“When you have a lineup, the players on the bench are key and they have to be ready.”
