The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 80 kilometers, according to the US Geological Survey.

No tsunami warning was issued and there were no immediate reports of major damage or injuries.

Today’s earthquake hit the same region of Aceh where the very strong Boxing Day tragedy struck in the Indian Ocean in 2004.

This earthquake triggered a tsunami that claimed more than 230,000 lives in twelve countries, most of them in the province of Aceh.
