Lloyds and Halifax became the latest banks to announce branch closures, with 40 canceled in the face of a huge drop in footfall.
Street lenders said the sites, all but one in England, would close between April and June.
This brings the total number of branch closures announced so far this year to 64.
Earlier this month, TSB said it would close nine locations, while Barclays designated 15 for chopping.
Banks have been reducing their branch networks across the country as more people use online banking services which has led to a decrease in the use of over-the-counter services.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, which has led to lockdowns and social distancing measures, this trend has accelerated.
But it raised concerns about the impact on a large minority for whom cash is still vital as well as small businesses that still rely on personal facilities.
Lloyds Banking Group, which owns both banks, said the branches to be closed had seen traffic drop by about 60% on average in the past five years.
A spokesperson said: “Affiliates play an important role in our strategy, but we need to put them in the right places, where they are put to good use.
“We will continue to invest in branches that are used regularly, along with online phone services and a mobile application.”

The bank branches to be closed include the 18 Halifax locations in Golders Green, north London, Maldon, Essex, and Bletchley, Buckinghamshire, among others.
The 22 Lloyd’s branches to be lost include those in Dagenham, east London, Ipswich, Suffolk, Twickenham in southwest London and Harrow in northwest London.
The only location not in England is the Bangor branch in Halifax, Wales.
The group said all branches are within a third of a mile of at least one free-use cash point and post office.
She added that the closure will not lead to the loss of any jobs.
