It was not previously known that Carrick had raped a Met teammate and would add pressure to the force, which apologized for missing a series of opportunities to discover his insults.
The woman, who has not been identified throughout her life as a sex crime victim, revealed that Carrick attacked her at home when they were briefly together in 2004.
She came forward to report the attack in October 2021 after Carrick was arrested in connection with another rape and the media released his name in the public domain.
The current officer described Carrick as a “womanizer” who flirted with a lot of different women, but said he was also very controlling.
She said they continued to work together for two weeks after the attack, which was very difficult for her.
Despite her ordeals, she was able to carry on with her career and never came face to face with Carrick again.
She said that although she believed in Sir Mark Rowley, who had vowed to root out corrupt officers from the Met, she was skeptical of his success given the scale of the problem.
She said she is relieved that Carrick has finally been brought to justice and hopes the prison sentence he received will bring some closure to his victims.
“I’m sure there are others who haven’t come forward yet, but I hope they find the strength to do so. It’s not too late.”
Expect more ‘horrific’ cases
A review is underway of the nine opportunities to stop Carrick, which The Met missed, during his 17-year reign.
He was reported to various police forces after a series of complaints including several allegations of domestic abuse, violence and harassment.
Earlier this week, Sir Mark warned there would be more “horrific” cases uncovered as the Met “raised the stone” to root out the criminals in its ranks.
