Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella and Trivoh Chalupa have received rough hands from Equipe’s notoriously brutal reviews after the Blues were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid.

Frank Lampard’s side suffered a 2-0 defeat on the night and crashed to the reigning champions with a 4-0 aggregate defeat in the quarter-finals.

Cucurella and Chalubh have the joint lowest ratings of the night with 3/10s, along with manager Frank Lampard and even Los Blancos star Karim Benzema.

At the other end of the scale, double-goal hero Rodrygo and former Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois both top scores with 8/10s.

There were lower scores in most of the board for Chelsea, with the highest ratings being given to N’Golo Kante and Reece James, who were given 6/10s.

It was a typically acrimonious affair in the L’Equipe player ratings after Chelsea lost to Real Madrid, Marc Cucurella got 3/10 with his failure to score before half-time a big factor, Travaux Chalobah also got 3/10 after missing a challenge on Rodrigo before opening

Brazilian striker Rodrigo scored twice in the second half to secure a place to face Man City most likely – unless Bayern Munich can overturn a 3-0 deficit on Wednesday night.

The French publication highlighted that Chelsea could have given themselves a fighting chance if Cucurella had scored what looked like a golden opportunity to put them 1-0 up on the night.

In the tie-break, the ball fell to the Spaniard unmarked at the back post. It may have taken too much time, however, and Courtois saved his shot, which he spread out to block.

L’Equipe, explaining his assessment, wrote that Cucurella “will likely regret having failed to score for so long”.

Then they blamed the Chalupa defender for Real Madrid’s opener in the 58th minute, when he set off to challenge Rodrygo – only to sidestep the latter in the build-up.

And they wrote: “His intervention in the void on Rodrigo in the 58th minute is a turning point in the match, because in the continuation of the work, the Brazilian went to open the scoring after a follow-up with Vinicius.”

“And even if the Englishman did manage to make a couple of good passes and return well to Vinicius, he didn’t ooze much composure on the whole.”

Wesley Fofana, who was attacked with a 2/10 rating by L’Equipe after the first leg, was slightly better this time around but nonetheless doubled his rating to just four.

Frank Lampard suffered his fourth consecutive defeat since returning to Chelsea and was also given the lowest score by the famously brutal French publication Karim Benzema can thank his team-mates for winning last night, as he also got 3/10

He was joined on 4/10 by Chelsea teammates Mateo Kovacic, who “started the game very badly”, and Kepa Arrizabalaga, with four players taking 5/10.

Despite Real Madrid’s victory, L’Equipe did not let the Frenchman Benzema off in their assessments as they said he ‘didn’t achieve anything’, was guilty of gifting the ball away on numerous occasions, and rarely found his teammates. that he “was also not in a lively state” with his efforts on target.

L’Equipe described Rodrygo as “Real Madrid’s best attacking element” and said that Courtois makes saves that look just like goals.

They wrote about the Belgian goalkeeper: “He does not score goals, but he avoids so much that it is like (scoring).

He was already crucial on the way out, he was again on the comeback. The speed with which he gets up and runs off to block Mark Cucurella’s shot, alone into the far corner, is phenomenal.

This crucial stop allows Real to return to the locker room flawlessly. It also tackles shots very well by Conor Gallagher and Enzo Fernandez.

Elsewhere in the Madrid team, Dani Carvajal has 7/10, four players have got six, Luka Modric and Eder Militao each have five goals, while Eduardo Camavinga has four.
